How to Care For Dry Hair

Did you know that you can prevent dry hair by treating your hair better? Sure, you know that. But did you know that chemicals used in coloring, bleaching and high-lighinting is really quite damaging to your hair? Not to mention that all those chemicals are also sinking into your skin on your head.

Today people just don't consider what they are doing to their bodies when it comes to the way we groom ourselves. Hair care is probably one of the worst ways we introduce toxins on purpose. However, if you're bound to do these things to your hair here are a few tips on overcoming the dry hair problem.

Apple-Cider Vinegar

You'd be surprised at how well a little apple-cider vinegar diluted in water, 7 parts water to 1 part vinegar, can help your hair. Use the vinegar for your over processed hair after you shampoo. It will help your perm perk up as well.

Salad Anyone?

Yep, you guessed it, mayonnaise can also be a good overall conditioner for your dry hair. Just rub that squishy white gook into your hair. Leave it on, resist wanting to rush to the sink to get it off your hair. You can stand it for 5 minutes now. Don't be a baby. Now then, after your 5 minutes of icky gookyness, you can then shampoo it out.

Ah, look... isn't it shiny?

Stop That Blasting Please!

Constantly blow drying your hair, using curling irons and straightners on your hair is really bad for it. These things not only dry out your hair but they suck the life out of it. Now, I know that hair has no life, but I think you know what I mean. Stop it! Try a different hair cut. Take a break. Let those curls just flow or flop, whatever the case. If you think your hair is dry, well... are you using the blow drying everyday? If so, now you know why your hair is dry.

Instead of reaching for the blow drying technique, try the finger fluff. Yep, just run your fingers through your hair and let it air dry. I know it takes forever, but we're trying something new now ok. Just see how that goes. If you can lesson the days you spend with the electric tools on your hair, that's at least something.

Use your fingers

Instead of using a blow dryer, gently fluff and style your hair with your fingers as it dries, always lifting the hair up off the scalp. Bending over as you do this allows gravity to contribute to extra fullness.

Sun Damage

Okay, this is probably going to far. The fact is that the sun can actually cause a lot of damage to your hair as well. Ever seen someone who's been on a trip for a long time come back with light hair? That's sun bleached hair. Not a lot you can do about this besides wearing a hat.

And by the way, wearing a hat does not make your hair fall out or make you go bald. That is an old wive's tale.

Oh Baby - My Baby - Oil That Is

If you have a pool or are swimming in a pool often, you'll want to protect your hair from that awful chlorine. If you're swimming in a public pool, well, I just don't want to talk about it. Public pools are just icky and poopy. Sometimes literally. I don't have any idea how to protect your hair from depoops.

Baby oil is good for your hair. You'll want to rub some gently into your hair before swimming. Don't tell anyone though. That stuff really reeks havoc on the pool system.
